More Excursions Planned for Nesquehoning Regional Railroad Station

The Reading & Northern Railroad is pleased to announce more all-day passenger excursions from the new Nesquehoning Regional Railroad Station in 2024. These new offerings will be diesel-powered.

On August 18, 2024, the railroad will offer a second opportunity to for passengers to travel to Pittston, Pennsylvania for the town's annual Tomato Festival. All of the same seating options as the steam-powered Iron Horse Ramble taking place the day before will be available; but at even more economical prices, as the trip will feature the railroad's handsome streamlined F-unit diesel locomotives. Passengers will ride the entire length of Lehigh Gorge State Park then up and down Penobscot Mountain to our Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Regional Railroad Station at Pittston. Complimentary shuttles will await arriving rail excursionists and take them into downtown Pittston for the festival. This unique event features great food (including a spaghetti eating contest), rides, bingo, live entertainment, and the Little Mr. and Miss Tomato contests. Passengers will have ample time to take in the Tomato Festival before returning to Nesquehoning in the evening. Tickets for this trip are on sale now and may be purchased by calling the passenger office directly at 610-562-2102 or by visiting www.rbmnrr-passenger.com.

For those looking for an even longer rail excursion, trips from Nesquehoning to Tunkhannock are planned for July 27 and September 7, both departing at 9:30am. In addition to the scenic main line mileage covered between Nesquehoning and Pittston, riders will enjoy more than twenty extra miles of scenery along the Susquehanna River to Tunkhannock. A light lunch will be served on board. Upon arrival in Tunkhannock, passengers will be greeted by representatives of local businesses; some of which will be hosting visitors with wine, spirits, and chocolate as part of the town's Sip & Savor event. Tickets for these exciting trips will go on sale at 9:00am Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at a price of $87.00 per passenger.
